The list display renders one bullet per item, with a few fields on the same line.
It suits compact link lists, like a section’s landing page that links to each page with a short blurb.
Titles and descriptions¶
By default each bullet is the linked title, then the description:
:::{listing}
:path: ../posts/*.md
:display: list
:limit: 3
:::- Community roundup: Highlights from the community call — new contributors, three plugins in the works, and a roadmap for the next release cycle.
- Your first listing: A step-by-step guide to your first listing, from a bare directive to a styled gallery.
- Interactive widgets: Interactive widgets have landed. Embed live, manipulable figures directly in your pages — sliders, toggles, and plots that respond to readers — without writing a single line of JavaScript yourself.
Pick your fields¶
:columns: picks the fields, as for the table.
The first field links to the item, a colon follows it, and the rest are joined with ·:
:::{listing}
:path: ../posts/*.md
:display: list
:columns: title,date,tags
:limit: 3
:::- Community roundup: June 5, 2025 · news, community
- Your first listing: May 15, 2025 · tutorial, docs
- Interactive widgets: April 10, 2025 · release, news
If an item has no value for a field, the field and its separator are left out.
If the first field is empty (say, a page with no short_title), the bullet falls back to the title:
:::{listing}
:source: yaml
:display: list
:columns: short_title,description
- title: Author guide
short_title: Authors
description: publish your work
- title: Administrator guide
description: manage users and organizations
- title: Deployer guide
:::- Authors: publish your work
- Administrator guide: manage users and organizations
- Deployer guide
A table of contents¶
Pair list with the toc source to list the pages under a page in your myst.yml table of contents, each with its description.
Filter it live¶
Filter bullets as you type with searchfilter:
:::{searchfilter} .myst-listing-item
:::
:::{listing}
:path: ../posts/*.md
:display: list
